745 Transformers Blew Up In Three Months Due To Overloading

Ambedkar Nagar : The extreme heat has caused loss worth crores to the Energy Corporation. Apart from overloading, due to other technical glitches, around 745 transformers of different capacities blew up between April 1 and June 30. In this, about 80 percent transformers are of 10 and 25 KVA.

About four lakh consumers in the district are supplied electricity from 42 power sub-stations and about 36 thousand transformers. This time, the scorching heat started right from the beginning. The period of intense and humid summer that started from the month of April is still continuing.

In such a situation, due to increase in electricity consumption, the load on the transformer also increased, due to which the transformers started blowing one by one. To save the transformer from extreme heat, an attempt was made to cool it with a cooler but it could not be saved from blowing.

It can be estimated from this that from April 1 to June 30, 745 transformers of different capacities blew up. According to the Power Corporation office, 153 transformers blew up in April, 237 in May and 355 in June. In this, about 80 percent transformers were of 10 and 25 KVA capacity. However, in order to provide smooth electricity to the consumers, new transformers were installed in place of the blown transformers in time.

Assistant Engineer Workshop Dharmendra Kumar said that on an average 15 transformers are being prepared every day. For this, officers and employees are working in shifts for 24 hours. Said that actually it is getting hotter this time. Due to this transformers are burning.
