Effect of improvement in wetland, state birds increased

Ambedkar Nagar :  The efforts of the district administration to improve wetlands including lakes have yielded results. The number of the state bird stork has increased in these lakes. The Forest Department is very excited about this. The department believes that if the condition of lakes etc. improves further, the number will increase further in the coming days.

The district administration has been running a special campaign to improve the geographical condition of the wetlands of the district for the last one year. The government released a special budget for one of these, Darwan Lake, while Punthar Lake was developed by the district administration with the help of NTPC Tanda. An action plan for the development of many other lakes was prepared and work was started there.

The effect of the campaign started for the development of lakes has been seen even in birds. On one hand, while common people are excited about these lakes, on the other hand, stork birds have also increased their interest towards these lakes. In fact, recently the Forest Department conducted a census of the state bird at 25 wetlands. A total of 78 adult storks were seen at these places during the two-day long special campaign. Apart from this, two baby storks were also seen by the employees.

Last year, when the census was conducted in the last week of June, 68 adults and three children were seen. Forest workers and environmental activists have expressed happiness over the increase in their numbers this time. Sources say that the number of storks has increased further these days. Only what is directly visible to the employees on the spot is recorded in the calculation. It is being told that including all the wetlands this number is more than 150.

Using binoculars and other equipment, employees counted cranes at a total of 25 places including Bhadauna, Mirzapur Kodra, Masada Mohanpur, Bajdahiya Paipur, Haraiya, Balaya Jagdishpur, Punthar, Hasanpur and Ameda. For this, the Forest Department had formed a total of 12 teams. DFO Dr. Umesh Tiwari said that the results of the crane census are encouraging. The situation regarding the environment is getting better here. The effect of all this has come to light.

District Magistrate Avinash Singh told in an interview given to Rainbow News that the process of development of lakes which has been started will continue here more strongly. It is pleasant to see the increase in the number of the state bird stork. More good results will emerge in the coming days.
