Ambedkar Nagar. On Tuesday, a thatched house caught fire due to a spark emanating from a short circuit in the high tension line in Makhdoompur village of Akbarpur Kotwali area. By the time the fire was brought under control, six other houses were also engulfed and reduced to ashes. Property worth lakhs was damaged in this.
A loose high tension wire caused a short circuit in the village on Tuesday. This caused a spark, due to which the thatched house of Singari Devi, a resident of the village below, caught fire. Seeing the flames rising, there was a scream. People gathered on the spot started trying to control the fire. The fire was so severe that it started engulfing nearby houses as well. The thatched houses of Ramsumer, Ramdin, Khushiram, Shyamji, Ramjit and Ramjanam located nearby also got caught in the fire.
The fire brigade team reached the spot after receiving information and started efforts to control the fire with the help of local people. After about an hour of tireless efforts the fire was brought under control but by then much of the stuff in all the seven kutcha houses had been burnt. According to the victims, property worth approximately Rs 3 lakh was damaged.
