Ambedkar Nagar : Staff nurses of Government Medical College, Saddarpur created a ruckus on Tuesday afternoon, alleging implementation of new rules in duty and misbehavior by the Principal. After two o'clock in the afternoon, they sat on strike in the administrative building. Seeing the situation worsening, the police had to reach there. After hours of uproar, the medical college administration had to postpone the new system.
To prevent arbitrariness in performing duty, a new system of attendance was implemented in the Government Medical College. In this, department-wise attendance was made mandatory, so that no employee could go here and there arbitrarily citing other work. Generally this decision was seen as an improvement in the system. But the staff nurses did not like this arrangement. On Tuesday afternoon, a large number of staff nurses reached the administrative building to register their objection on this. A commotion broke out while trying to meet the principal there.
Staff nurses started protesting alleging indecency. The women workers sat outside the principal's room, shouting slogans. Seeing the situation worsening, Aliganj police station in-charge Shashank Shukla and other policemen reached there. An attempt was made to convince the staff nurses but it did not work. Later, the medical college administration postponed the new order for marking attendance for the time being. During this period, there was an uproar among the staff nurses for about four hours.
The Principal and other senior doctors were not able to come out due to the ruckus created by the staff nurses outside the Principal's room. The hostage-like situation continued for several hours. While the security guards of the Medical College maintained their position during this period, the Aliganj Police also deployed women police personnel. The atmosphere calmed down in the evening and the administration heaved a sigh of relief.
